Phone battery replacement in Tenerife: when you need one
Updated · Local 4, Centro Comercial San Eugenio, Av. de los Pueblos 20, 38660 Costa Adeje
When does a phone battery need replacing?
When it no longer gets you through the day, the phone shuts down early, or the phone itself recommends a replacement. Every lithium-ion battery loses capacity as it ages. Apple designs iPhone 14 and earlier models to keep 80% of their original capacity after 500 full charge cycles in ideal conditions, and iPhone 15 models and later after 1,000 cycles. One cycle means using 100% of the battery's capacity in total, whether in one go or over several days.
Below that level you notice it: fewer hours between charges and, on older batteries, unexpected shutdowns when the charge is low or the phone is cold. Apple says an aged battery can also make an iPhone feel slower, with apps taking longer to open. A swollen battery is a different case: stop using the phone and have it looked at (see below). A1 Computers replaces iPhone, Samsung and other Android batteries at Local 4, CC San Eugenio, Costa Adeje.
How do you check battery health on an iPhone?
Open Settings › Battery › Battery Health on iPhone 15 models and later, or Settings › Battery › Battery Health & Charging on iPhone 11 to 14. Maximum Capacity compares the battery today with when it was new. On iPhone 15 and later with iOS 17.4 or later, the same screen also shows the cycle count, when the battery was made and first used, and whether a replacement is recommended.
Apple shows a service message when health has dropped a lot: "Your battery's health is significantly degraded." Apple says this is not a safety issue and the battery can still be used, but a replacement restores full performance and capacity. An "Unable to verify" message means the health reading may not be accurate. Either way, bring the iPhone to the counter: the battery is checked before you decide.
How do you check battery health on a Samsung Galaxy?
Use Samsung's built-in test. Open the Samsung Members app, go to Support, tap Get started under Phone diagnostics and choose Battery status. The same screen tests cable charging and wireless charging, which helps tell a worn battery apart from a faulty cable, charger or port.
Samsung lists the battery, the cable, the power adapter, the charging port, moisture and the phone's temperature as the usual reasons a Galaxy charges slowly or not at all. If the diagnostics show a weak battery, a replacement is the fix; if the battery tests fine, look at the cable, the adapter and the port next. Our Samsung repair guide covers the other common Galaxy faults.
Does Tenerife heat wear out phone batteries?
It can. Apple says its devices work best at ambient temperatures between 0 and 35 °C, with 16 to 22 °C as the ideal, and that exposing a device to ambient temperatures above 35 °C can permanently damage battery capacity. Charging in high temperatures damages it further, and even storing a battery somewhere hot can harm it for good.
On holiday, that means a sunbed in the midday sun or a phone left on the dashboard of a rental car. Apple and Samsung both warn against leaving a phone in a parked car on a hot day or in direct sunlight. When an iPhone gets too hot, Apple says charging can slow or stop and the screen can dim until it cools. Keep the phone in the shade or in a bag, and charge it somewhere cool; if it gets hot while charging, Apple suggests taking it out of its case first.
What should you do if your phone battery is swollen?
Stop pressing on it and get it repaired. A swelling battery pushes the screen or the back cover outwards, so the phone looks thicker or the back bulges or separates from the frame. Google's guidance for Pixel phones says swelling alone isn't a safety concern, but a lifted screen lets liquid and dust in, and an exposed battery is easier to damage, which can make it overheat.
Google says not to press on the glass or the back cover to push the battery back in, not to pry the phone open and not to try fixing the battery yourself. Back up your data while the phone still works. A swollen battery is replaced, not repaired: bring the phone to Local 4, CC San Eugenio, and the battery and the frame are checked before a new battery goes in.
How can you make a phone battery last longer on holiday?
Keep it cool, avoid long stretches at 100% and let the phone manage charging. On iPhone, Optimized Battery Charging learns your routine and can hold the charge at 80% until you need the phone, which reduces the time the battery spends fully charged. iPhone 15 and later also have a Charge Limit you can set between 80% and 100%.
- Charge in the shade, not in the sun or on a hot car seat.
- Use a good cable and adapter: Samsung warns that low-quality or non-approved chargers can cause slow charging or intermittent disconnection.
- Storing a spare phone: Apple suggests charging it to about 50%, switching it off and keeping it somewhere cool and dry, below 32 °C.
If the battery health is already low, these habits slow the decline but don't reverse it; only a replacement does.

FAQ
- How do I know if my iPhone battery needs replacing?
- Check Settings, Battery, Battery Health (Battery Health and Charging on iPhone 11 to 14). Apple designs iPhone 14 and earlier to keep 80 percent of their original capacity after 500 full cycles, and iPhone 15 and later after 1,000. If the phone no longer lasts the day, shuts down early or shows a service message, consider a replacement.
- Is a swollen phone battery dangerous?
- Google says swelling alone isn't a safety concern, but it can lift the screen and let in liquid and dust, and an exposed battery is easier to damage, which can make it overheat. Don't press the screen back, don't pry the phone open, back up your data and get the battery replaced.
- Does heat damage phone batteries?
- Yes. Apple says ambient temperatures above 35 °C can permanently damage battery capacity and that charging in the heat damages it further. Keep the phone out of direct sun and parked cars, and charge it somewhere cool.
