Is a Samsung Galaxy waterproof at the beach or the pool?
No. Samsung says the water resistance of Galaxy phones is not permanent and weakens over time with normal wear. The ratings come from lab tests in fresh water: IPX8 means the phone survived 30 minutes at a depth of 1.5 metres. Samsung tells owners not to expose a Galaxy to salt water, pool water, soapy water, sunscreen or other chemicals, or to high water pressure.
If a water-resistant Galaxy has been in the sea or a pool, Samsung's advice is to rinse it in clean water for 1 to 3 minutes, wipe it with a dry cloth, and not to connect a charger or any accessory until it is completely dry. Don't dry it with a hair dryer or another heat source. Samsung recommends an inspection even if the phone seems to work normally; in our experience, salt keeps corroding the board after the phone looks dry. Our water damage guide explains how a wet phone is opened and cleaned.
What does 'Moisture detected' mean on a Galaxy?
It means the Galaxy has found water in its USB-C port and is refusing cable charging until the port dries. Samsung says the charging port must be completely dry before you charge, even on a water-resistant model. Unplug the cable, let the phone dry in the air, and don't push cotton buds or anything else into the port.
Beach sand causes a related problem. If dust or debris is stuck in the port or the cable connector, Samsung says charging may be blocked for safety. Its advice is to switch the phone off, look into the port with a torch, and remove debris with a soft brush or by gently blowing air into it. If the alert keeps coming back once the port is clean and dry, or the cable only works at an angle, the port needs a closer look on the bench. More in phone not charging after the beach.
How can you check a Galaxy battery before a repair?
Run Samsung's own test. Open the Samsung Members app, go to Support, tap Get started under Phone diagnostics, then choose Battery status, Cable charging or Wireless charging. Samsung lists the battery, the cable, the power adapter, the charging port, moisture and the phone's temperature as the usual reasons a Galaxy charges slowly or not at all, so the test helps separate a worn battery from a faulty cable or port.
If the diagnostics show a weak battery, a replacement is the fix; if the battery tests fine, the cable, adapter or port is the next suspect. A back or screen that starts to lift away from the frame points to a swelling battery: stop pressing on it and have it looked at. Our battery replacement guide covers swelling and heat, and A1 Computers replaces Galaxy batteries at the counter in Costa Adeje.
Why does a Galaxy overheat in the Tenerife sun?
Because it is working outside its comfort zone. Samsung designs Galaxy devices for ambient temperatures between 0 and 35 °C and warns against leaving a phone in direct sunlight or in a parked car on a hot day. Heavy use, such as navigation, the camera or a hotspot, adds heat of its own.
If a Galaxy shows a temperature warning, Samsung's advice is to unplug the charger, close running apps and let the phone cool down before charging again. Keep it in the shade or in a bag rather than on a sunbed. A phone that overheats in normal use indoors, or whose battery bulges, needs checking: heat is hard on batteries, as our battery guide explains.
How do you protect your data when a Galaxy goes in for repair?
Back up, then switch on Maintenance mode if your Galaxy has it. Samsung says to always back up before a repair, because data could be lost. Maintenance mode, introduced with Android 14 and One UI 6.0, creates a separate account for the repair: your personal data stays hidden, only pre-installed apps are available, and your accounts are logged out.
Turn it on in Settings › Battery and device care › Maintenance mode, or from the Samsung Members app. You need a screen lock (PIN, password, pattern or fingerprint) to switch it on, and the same lock to leave it after the repair. The same screen offers a temporary Samsung Cloud backup, kept for 30 days. On Android, the Google backup in Settings is the other option. The full checklist for every brand is in how to prepare your phone for a repair.
How much does a Samsung repair cost at A1 Computers?
It depends on the model and the fault, so A1 Computers quotes for your phone. Send the model and the problem on WhatsApp to 641 780 077, call 922 71 35 82, or walk in to Local 4 at CC San Eugenio. You get the price before any work starts. With water damage, the price comes after the phone has been opened and inspected, because it depends on how far the corrosion has spread.
Bring the cable you normally use, and say if the photos or data on the phone matter more than the repair itself. If you need to stay online while the phone is on the bench and you have a spare unlocked phone, prepaid tourist SIMs and eSIMs are sold at the same counter.
