No. Apple says not to use an iPad with a cracked screen, as it may cause injury: small glass splinters come loose as the crack spreads, which matters with children. Until it is repaired, cover the cracks with clear tape and back the iPad up while the touch still works.

A drop can damage more than the glass. Apple says that if you suspect damage to the iPad or its battery, for example after it has been dropped, crushed or exposed to liquid, you should stop using it, because it may cause overheating or injury. A screen that lifts away from the frame can be a sign of a swollen battery; don't press it back down.

Start with power. Apple says an iPad that doesn't respond may need to charge for up to an hour, so leave it on a cable and adapter you know work. Then force restart it: the buttons differ between iPads with a Home button and those without, and Apple's support page shows both.

On a Samsung Galaxy Tab, Samsung says the most common reason for a freeze is an app loading or running incorrectly; hold Power and Volume down together for more than 7 seconds to force a restart. When it no longer lasts a day of normal use, shuts down unexpectedly, or the screen starts to lift. Apple says an iPad battery should only be repaired by a trained technician, because a damaged battery can overheat or catch fire, and recommends fitting only new batteries, because used cells can be damaged when they are removed. Apple's iPad repair page says that under AppleCare it replaces a battery once its capacity drops below 80%, which is a useful yardstick.

Back it up, then deal with Find My. Back up in Settings › [your name] › iCloud › iCloud Backup › Back Up Now, or to a computer. Apple's preparation steps say to turn on Ready for Repair or Trade-In in the Find My app on iPadOS 27 or later, or to turn off Find My on iPadOS 26 or earlier, and that Apple might not be able to service a device if Find My isn't turned off.

The reason is Activation Lock: Apple says it turns on automatically with Find My, and after that nobody can turn off Find My or erase the device without your Apple Account password.
