Check Settings › Battery › Battery Health on iPhone, or run the battery test in Samsung Members on a Galaxy. Treat spray on deck as seawater. Apple and Samsung both say water resistance is not permanent and weakens with normal wear, and Samsung tells owners not to expose a Galaxy to salt water. Keep the phone in a zipped pocket or a dry bag on deck, and use a lanyard or a firm grip for photos over the rail.

If salt spray soaks the phone, wipe it dry, leave the charging port to dry before plugging in, and don't use a hairdryer.
